I was inspired to learn more about negotiation after reading Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. In this book, Voss shared his expertise in negotiation as a former FBI hostage negotiator and founder of the Black Swan Group.
His writing breaks down complex concepts like labeling emotions, question-asking, and psychological principles into easily understandable elements that could be applied to any situation. After reading it, I wanted to take my newfound knowledge further, so I decided to volunteer for a suicide hotline.
At the hotline, I practiced active listening skills and employed the same practical techniques Voss discussed in his book. Through practice, I learned how to use effective negotiation skills to be influential and persuasive.
